  • Is this the same event as the IAS Show & Sale
The event previously known as the IAS Show & Sale has been rebranded to the IAS Tropical Plant Expo to invite a broader audience and invite those who may not be familiar with aroids to join us in getting to know our favorite plant family!
  • Why did the venue change from previous years?
To accommodate our show's incredible growth and provide an even more comfortable experience for all attendees, the International Aroid Society's Tropical Plant Expo has a new home! We're excited to be hosting the event at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo Center. This new venue boasts 49,000 square feet of air-conditioned indoor space, a true game-changer for our hot Florida September! It will ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone who joins us, allowing you to fully immerse yourselves in the experience and Aroid community.
  • Will the expo only be for aroids?
While our focus remains on aroids, we’ve expanded to include a wider variety of plants. With 60+ vendors, attendees can explore not only aroids, but also other fascinating plant species. Our show competitions, workshops, and auctions will still emphasize aroids.
  • Who is speaking at the expo?
Our speakers, topics, and schedule (coming soon) are listed here.
  • How does the Member Sales Table work?
Information about signing up for Member Sales can be found here. The International Aroid Society retains 30% of the member sales, and will remit taxes to the state of Florida. The members will receive the remaining 70% of sales within 30 days of the expo's conclusion. You will need to create an account in order to sign-up.
  • How can I volunteer?
We could always use some extra helping hands at the show! Our volunteers receive a free limited edition t-shirt, early admission to the expo, free parking, and lunch! More information can be found here. You will need to create an account in order to sign-up.
  • How do I enter a plant into the Aroid Awards?
You can find information about entry and prizes to the Aroid Awards here. You will need to create an account in order to sign-up.
  • I bought tickets, but can no longer attend. Can I get a refund?
All ticket sales are final, and no refunds will be given. Please see your ticket receipt, or view the event descriptions here.
  • How can I sign up to vend?
There are a limited number of booths remaining. Information about applying to be a vendor can be found here. You will need to create an account in order to apply.
  • Is there a schedule for the expo?
We're currently working on a schedule and will publish one as soon as it's complete. Please sign up for our newsletter to get updates once it's published. Be sure to add info@iastropicalplantexpo.com as a contact or check your spam folder if you haven't received anything.
  • I signed up for something/contacted the IAS but haven't heard back. What do I do?
If you've signed up for anything (vendor, member sales, volunteer, aroid awards, or newsletter) or reached out to us and have not heard back please check your spam folder. In most cases we will get back to you within a week.
  • I'm an IAS member, how do I get early access to the expo?
Thank you for supporting the IAS! Just bring your expo ticket the morning of the event and we'll verify your name and/or email address against our member database. A license or id may be required. Early IAS Member access is available Saturday only from 8am - 10am, with doors opening to the public at 10am. See you there!

  • How do I submit questions to the speaker panel at the Dinner & Auction?
Approximately one month prior to the event, we will send an email with an attached submission form to everyone who has purchased tickets, where you can submit questions. Questions are welcome to be directed toward particular speakers, or as a general question to the group. We will then send a reminder email a couple weeks before the event. Submissions are limited only to ticketed attendees.
  • How do we pay for plants won during the dinner auction?
We will be accepting: All major credit cards, checks, Zelle, and cash. We will not be accepting: Payments through PayPal, Venmo, or Cashapp.
  • I'll be traveling to the expo from another country. Do you offer anything to help with the visa process?
We wouldn't be the International Aroid Society without you. Please create an account and submit a request for an Official Invitation Letter here and we'll email you a copy of the letter to include with your visa application.
  • How can I get my plants home if I'm flying?
If you are flying domestically you can pack your plants in your suitcase or carry on, per your airline’s guidelines. You can also ship your plants via USPS, Fedex, UPS, etc. If you do not have shipping supplies with you, local shipping or office supply stores such as FedEx, UPS, Staples, and OfficeMax have items such as boxes, bubble wrap, tape, etc. that can be purchased, and they often have space to package items. Lester Kallus will be presenting as a speaker on successfully packing your plants for travel. Check out our Speakers page for more information. If you are flying internationally, you will need to contact the local USDA Plant Inspection Station to apply for a phytosanitary certificate to be issued. Your plants will be inspected for any pests, disease, etc prior to issuance of the phytosanitary certificate. Please be sure to check your country’s import regulations, and have any necessary permits or documentation as required. Then, you can either have your plants packaged and shipped via UPS, DHL, or Air Cargo to your home country. Alternatively, you can package them for transportation in a suitcase, or carry-on luggage if allowed by your home country.
